This is a thrilling Concertino for Clarinet and Symphonic Band. The piece includes many of the clarinet's technical, expressive, and timbral characteristics, as well as some flavors of Colombian music. The composer explores the three ranges of the clarinet (chalumeau, clarion, and altissimo) either by devoting specific sections to each or by moving through them freely and in a connected way. The piece also explores extended techniques, such as bisbigliando, multiphonics, and sing and play, as well as very challenging passages. This 'Colombian concertino' is full of characters, including moments of intimacy, drama, happiness, freneticism, and euphoria.
