For Solo Flute (unaccompanied).

Rondó Pacífico was inspired by the need to create repertoire for unaccompanied solo flute based on traditional Colombian musical styles. The work is built upon rhythmic patterns characteristic of the music of Colombia’s Pacific region, specifically those performed on the marimba de chonta in the currulao style. The marimba functions as both a melodic and harmonic instrument; however, the flute, given its primarily melodic nature and the inherent difficulty of producing more than one note simultaneously, cannot fulfill the same harmonic role. To address this, the composer explores the flute’s harmonic potential through broken chords that outline clearly defined harmonic progressions.
